Happy Valentine’s Day people! We know that Valentine’s Day is the one day in the year where love is officially celebrated and recognized. Lovers everywhere are pressured with expressing their love with cards, gifts, and chocolates. Well, we get that and it is actually fun! Buuuuuuut…you don’t need to break the bank to actually surprise your lover. Guess what? The National Retail Federation took a survey last year and they found that a whole of people are going to spend a whole lot of money (about 19.7 billion dollars) on Valentine’s Day gifts and experiences.
While you may want to do something out of the ordinary like go on a trip to keep the fire of love alive, others may wanna exchange jewelry and stuff. BUT, there are still some things that you DEFINITELY don’t want to do this Valentine unless you are in the mood to quench the fire of love.
So, here’s a list of February 14th no-nos you want to avoid today.
11. Don’t Go Empty- Handed On Your Date
Fine…today’s a working day and you’ve been terribly busy. Maybe you’re not even the squeezy squishy mushy cuddly type but that is not an excuse for you to show up on your date empty-handed. In fact, it’s just plain rude when you do that. You could try grabbing a box of chocolates or something really good on your way to your date.
10. Do NOT Pretend To Lose Your Memory
This might seem like a clever idea at first, but pretending to lose your memory about your break-up with your ex isn’t the best way to get him or her back for Valentine’s Day.Remember Jana on “The Young and The Restless”? She faked amnesia to hold on to Kevin, her ex-husband, while his heart and mind are set on another woman. This Valentine’s Day should NOT be a guilt-trip Day.
9. Don’t Bring A Friend
No matter how much you want your newest boy or girlfriend to meet your best friends and hit it off with them, PLEASE leave them at home. No excuses! You need to spend Valentine’s Day alone with your boyfriend or girlfriend. They can always meet your squad later on.
8. Don’t Make Elaborate and Inflexible Plans
Valentine’s Day is the New Year’s Eve of romance: it’s a night you wait all year for which, inevitably, leads to disappointment when things don’t go exactly as you dreamed (or scheduled meticulously in the shower). Don’t plan a night that will crash and burn if you’re fifteen minutes late to dinner or get a little bit lost on the way to the romantic view you’ve been scouting for sunset. Because from what I’ve seen and I know, nothing ever goes as exactly as planned.
7. Don’t Break Up With Him/ Her
Okay, so you may not have the funds to wow your special someone with a shiny or tasty gift however that’s no reason to call it quits. Breaking up with someone on Valentine’s Day is the absolute worse day to end a relationship – no matter how short or long you’ve been with someone. If you’re contemplating on breaking up then do it on February 15th. And most importantly don’t end a relationship because you can’t afford a gift – instead be honest and your partner will most likely understand.
6. Don’t Propose On Valentine’s Day
There are 364 other days to propose to someone – pick one. Popping the question to your lover on Valentine’s Day is beyond cliche and is not at all meaningful. Choose a day that can be celebrated as your day – not a day where everyone in the world is professing their love for each other. Create your own special day!
You feed off horror movies. It’s fun to feel the chills and get spooked out. But don’t scare the daylights out of your date by going for some gory flick on a day that is meant to be romantic!
4. Do Not Give Him/ Her Surveillance Jewelry
After EJ asked Nicole to marry him on”Days of our Lives,” he presented her with a beautiful diamond bracelet. After Nicole happily put it on, EJ revealed that there was a tracking device implemented in the bracelet – kind of like an ankle monitor but with some bling!
Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend so opt for some jewelry with more bling and less stalker-ish devices.
3. Please Go Easy On The Garlic
You’ve made a reservation at a seafood restaurant and plan to order that mouth-watering spectacular Butter Garlic Lobster or giant crab to wow your date. Here’s a tip. Do yourself a favor and skip dishes with loads of garlic. You don’t want to smell like a garlic pod post-dinner.
2. Control Your Roving Eye
You’ll spot divas in every direction you look, especially if you’re come for dinner at a fancy restaurant, where women are dressed to kill. But no matter how gorgeous they look, don’t try to sneak a peek. You don’t want to get called out for staring at other women, especially today.
1. Do Not Lie Or Keep Secrets
This is a no-brainer! Keeping secrets and lying to your partner is something to definitely avoid this Valentine’s Day. Natalie and Brody on “One Live to Live” have been lying to their significant others, John and Jessica, about their one night stand. This resulted in Natalie’s baby’s DNA test proving that Brody, not John, is her son’s father. Neither John, Jessica nor Brody know this.
On “All My Children,” Green Lee wouldn’t tell her fiancé, Ryan that his ex-girlfriend Madison is pregnant with his baby. Can anyone else see where these webs of lies will lead?
If you’re going to tell white lies this Valentine’s Day, it might as well be to plan a surprise for your Valentine!
