I am forever a Foodie, so words like recession don’t affect my healthy meals. All thanks to my life hack skills.
So, it happened that I was broke sometime this year, and eating out was not an option. So I decided to do a N500 food challenge. A N500 Food Challenge is what I do when I want to buy a small quantity of food items worth that amount. It actually can help you limit your spending, if you think about it.
Homemade meals are not as expensive as you think.
Let’s assume you have rice and you want to prepare something that you can eat with basically anything, well…. almost anything. One dish you can make that goes with anything is vegetable soup. Or efo riro, as it is called in the Yoruba language of Nigeria.
Efo riro (vegetable soup) isn’t hard to make. All you have to do is follow the recipe’s instructions. You ready?
Here’s the N500 Food Challenge:
Go to a Local Market, and shop for ingredients to make vegetable soup (efo riro).
- Pumpkin Leaves (Ugwu) – N100
- Palmoil – N60
- Maggi – N20
- Beef/Fish – N200
- Bell Pepper and Tomatoes – N100
Can you figure out how to make the soup? Cool. If you need help with making this dish, you can comment on this article. You can also check out www.palmchatnow.com and download the Palmchat app for more exciting content on how to make local dishes like this.
The vegetable soup can be eaten with Rice, Amala, Pounded yam, Eba…the list is endless.
